Resurgent Daniil Medvedev Secures Maiden Trophy in Over Two Years

19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hardcourt

A comeback the Russian player won his maiden championship for over two years with victory over opponent Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a torrid season, achieving just one win at the Grand Slams and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

His inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the world's top 10 and ultimately parting ways with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Currently working with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought three-set triumph over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

It is the player's first trophy since the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt since spring of 2023.

Victory also signifies he has secured 21 victories at 21 various tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my both daughters together, so to win a championship is particularly special," said ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I got when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his past six finals, featuring in that event in the past months.

His counter-punching strategy and recurring reactions on the tennis court had caused commentators to question if his skill to compete at the highest level was finished.

Yet the player has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, attempting to come to the net and perform aggressively, supported by an enhanced serve.

Medvedev fought back from a break down in the opening set against the difficult opponent, taking 4 of the concluding five exchanges to go ahead.

The pair traded break points in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his first ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to force a final set.

Moutet saved 4 early-game break points in a tight third set before the Russian secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.

Appropriately, the winner clinched victory with a rally at the front of the court, with the Frenchman failing to control a volley after a lengthy match.
